One day before Vashisht Mela (village festival) started, I walked up Chhor Naala (the stream fed by Jogini Falls that runs on down into the Beas River at Bhang Village) and photographed the hydro electric project works (Thursday 12th April 2012).
As can be seen, the generator house is almost completed, making an messy show on the stream, & currently the company is laying pipe right up to the footprint area of the Goddess; this is invasive & does not correspond to their original plans.
This is allegedly illegal. This is being fought out in a case in the High Court in Simla (capital of Himachal Pradesh). We support the campaign to "Stop Jogini Falls Hydro Project".
JOGINI FALLS & THE HYDRO PROJECT:
The Water Millers Company of Bhuntar obtained permission to build a 1MW micro hydro power plant below the Jogini Falls. But their plant extends now up into the Goddess' private area, invading her peace & desecrating the lovely quietude of Jogini Falls. The Flower Raj supports the villagers of Vashisht in their court battle against this invasive & unnecessary project.
Jogini Anti-Hydro Demo Video"A huge gathering of women from various mahila mandals of the upper Kullu valley along with residents of Vashisht, Chaadiyari, Mathiyana, Koshala and Kanchnikoot took out a protest march here today against the 1-MW Micro-Hydel Power Generation Project undertaken by Water Miller Power Company coming up at the Jogini waterfall."
