The Vashisht Village Mela (village festival) lasts for three days every year (in 2012 April 13 to April 15). On the first day there is great activity at Jogini Falls.
This album chronicles that day of 13th April 2012, the first day of the Vashisht Village Mela at Jogini Falls for Jogini Devi.
From early morning, first men come to cook, bringing up both ingredients and the wood to cook them in; after a short homage (darshan) of the Goddess (Jogini Ma) they set to work.
Later the Guur of Jogini Devi (her shaman) will sit before her shrine & women will bring their very young sons for tonsure & blessings.
Finally the people will eat in tranches, some off the ancient carved stone bowls that are on the grass at the shrine and washed clean by the overnight rains on this day.
With food in one's belly and the Goddess' prasad (something she gave back, like sweets or flowers) in one's hand... time to return home from this beautiful wonderful place of sacred space.
